The Bergner Astrochemistry Group

Our group aims to understand the chemistry at play during star and planet formation, and how this shapes the compositions, properties, and potential habitability of newly formed planetary systems.

At the same time, we are interested in the fundamental molecular knowledge that can be gained by exploring chemical processes under extreme interstellar-like conditions.

We use powerful telescopes like ALMA and JWST to spectroscopically probe the composition of planet-forming materials in extrasolar systems, and cryogenic vacuum experiments to explore molecular behavior at very low temperatures and pressures.
